David has over 20 years’ experience in the meat industry having started his career with PPCS after graduating from Lincoln University with a Bachelors degree in science. He has held roles with Taylor Preston Limited in Wellington and Auckland Meat Processors which include Quality Systems Management and Operational Management providing a vast depth and breadth of knowledge within the industry.

David is the General Manager of Argus New Zealand and Australia, a role which he has occupied since September 2017. Together with his team he is looking forward to partnering with customers to provide high quality New Zealand made tools and equipment solutions from around the globe to suit our customers’ needs. With its extensive range of products Argus will be able to satisfy your needs quickly and efficiently.

I joined Argus in May 2002.  My industry experience was gained by having 8 years working at various Meat Companies. I worked as a butcher on a lamb chain for 3 years before joining the quality assurance department and then moving on to become supervisor in the boning room. I left the industry to pursue a career as a publican but later returned to work as the load-out supervisor in the freezers. Prior to my meat industry experience I dairy farmed for 15 years – a wide and varied career.

My region is the lower North Island and spans from Gisborne (on the East Coast) to New Plymouth (on the West Coast) and then down to Wellington. I have an extensive calling schedule aimed at keeping in regular contact with my valued customer base, if you are in my region and would like me to call, please contact me. I am based in Hastings and live with my partner Suzanne. We have now finished renovating our house so I hope to be able to play more golf and participate in the odd cycle race.

I have owned and operated several successful business’ and received awards for business innovation in the industry.  I have developed strong connections within the meat industry which helps with supporting our ARGUS customers.

I started my working life as an apprentice retail butcher in regional New Zealand and remained there for 5 years. After a 2 year stint in Europe working on a pork slaughter line as well as in the boning room, I returned to NZ where I moved into Butchery Management for Supermarkets for several years. I completed my Meat Inspection training for the Bovine, Ovine and Porcine species, spending the following 3 years doing predominantly Ovine.

My Wife and I relocated to Australia where I returned to Butchery Management for the supermarket and retail sectors. My last position prior to starting at Argus was with a Premium Butchery in Brisbanes’ inner southern suburbs.

In 2006 I was employed by Argus. Being part of the Argus family is indeed a pleasure, we have great customers and I work within a friendly team that has a wealth of knowledge and experience they are all willing to share.

I started work life working in the Automotive industry in New Zealand as a Mechanic, followed by a shift into Auto Electrical with focus on car audio and security where I specialised in custom installations in my own business. In the late 90’s I retrained as an Electrical Service Technician and moved to flexible packaging, where I ran a busy service department with a team of technicians. I moved to Melbourne in 2008 and worked as a Service Technician with processing machinery in the Food Industry, mostly in further processing. In 2012 I changed to a sales role working on solutions for our customer base with a focus on Abattoirs and Boning rooms.

After a small break within the industry I joined Argus in 2017 as Technical Sales Manager. My role is varied and exciting with focus on overseeing our range of specialist handtools and processing equipment, ensuring we are delivering the most cost effective option to our customers. Customer support is very important at Argus and I am proud to be part of the Argus family.
